THE DOROTHY SERIES

This series of prints presents a visual biography of the artist's mother, Dorothy Kline. Following the concept of using "traces," evoking one's personality by means of mundane details, Wayne built her images from actual artifacts of Dorothy's life: a necklace or glove, various certificates, snapshots and letters.

Little by little, I located, collected, and assembled material about her. I didn't use everything. I selected very carefully, paying close attention to building a story line that didn't tell everything, only such thngs as she might have told girlfriends at lunch.

The following litho's are not the complete series but works that will tell some of the story.

Boxed portolio of twenty lithographs

Dorothy was to discover that her second marriage was bigamous and that her husband was an FBI agent who (probably) married her to spy on her brother, Paul, an active member in the Communist Party at the time.
